Many countries today are searching for ways to apply the technology, such as the U.S. planning to use facial recognition technology to monitor and track those who enter and leave the country at the Mexico border. While the software promotes ease of access in technology, it also poses a threat to privacy and consent, calling into question whether the risks outweigh the benefits. Dr. Oleg Sergiyenko, head of the Applied Physics department of the Engineering Institute of Baja California Autonomous University and the editor of Developing and Applying Optoelectronics in Machine Vision, talked with IGI Global about addressing the issues and future developments of facial recognition technology.

Reviews and Testimonials

This book is highly recommended for practitioners and researchers in CALL studies. It not only looks at the history and the present of ICT-supported language learning, but also looks at the future of intelligent tablet-based learning. The findings about the students’ learning effect in relation to learning styles as well as the system’s cost-effectiveness will provide some interesting insights to CALL practitioners and researchers, and will help administrators to make more informed educational decisions.

Zhenzhen Chen, Beijing University of Posts
and Telecommunications, China

Mika Merviö’s book does not seek to give definitive answers, because he doesn’t have any, and I doubt that anyone ever could.
